Power Train · Vehicle Speed Control

Car recently is not shifting properly. Drives at high rpms and if i accelerate too quickly say i get up to 80 mph on highway car won't shift into next gear the rpms suddenly drop all the way down to under 1000 and quits accelerating until it jumps back into gear. Have to let foot off the gas for it to shift and cruise control has been not functioning properly either.
